Texas A&M University-Texarkana at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ have partnered with students and student leaders on campus to collect plastic bags to be donated to Titus County Cares.

Judy Lee, chairman of the Titus County Cares Board of Directors, said the organization is in tremendous need of bags to meet the demand of the organization?s Food†Pantry†and weekend food program for children in the area.

?We use around 5,500 plastic bags a week between Food4kids and the Food Pantry.† Around 200 families a week are served through the Food Pantry and 1,300 children receive a sack full of nutritious food every Friday†which means that†5,500 sacks full of nutritious†food goes home with local families in need†every week,? she said.

Titus County Cares is a nonprofit organization that assists families, children and elderly individuals in need throughout the community.

?ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and A&M-Texarkana at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ are always willing to enter into a partnership to serve the community at large,? said Rico Willis, director of Student Activities and Multicultural Affairs at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. ?Establishing the plastic bag drop-off bins on campus for TCC allows our campus community to fill a gap by serving a need. It's a great opportunity for others to give support to a wonderful† organization that gives to families in need. It's a blessing to be a blessing to others.?

A box to collect the plastic bags is located in the University Health Science Building where the A&M-Texarkana at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ office is housed. †Bags will be gathered once a month and delivered to TCC.

?A&M-Texarkana at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is thrilled to be a part of this community service project with ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ,? said Coke. ?At the end of the day our goal is for students to not only understand the importance of learning and lifelong learning, and be leaders in their respective academic studies, but also realize the responsibility they have in serving our communities and making our communities better as future college graduates and community leaders.?

Community partners who would like to donate plastic bags can drop them off at the Office of A&M-Texarkana at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ located in the University Health Sciences Center, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, 2886 FM 1735, Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
