Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarships to benefit ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ students

Denney

Christi Denney recently presented the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Foundation with $2,000 to support the Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarship fund. The money was raised through the Jingle Bell Jog (5K) held last December in Pittsburg, which Denney organized in memory of her late sister, DeWoody.

The funds will provide three scholarships to ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ students. One is for $1,000 and is designated to a non-traditional student already enrolled in the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program. The other two scholarships for $500 will benefit non-traditional students who plan to enroll in one of those programs. Denney is pictured (right) presenting the gift to Nita May, ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Director of Development.

This is the third year the family hosted a 5K memorial run to support causes near to DeWoody’s heart. The family is considering a β€œvirtual” run for 2020. Details will be released at a later time.

β€œEducation was very important to Nita. She began her career as a public school teacher. After her children were born, she returned to the classroom for a short while, but decided that her goals had shifted and she wanted to change careers. While preparing to enter the Physician Assistant program at UT-Southwestern in Irving, she attended ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ to take all the pre-requisite math and science classes that she needed,” Denney said.
