Eagles baseball to host tourney Sept. 7-8

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ baseball team will kick off the 2012 fall season Sept. 7 as the Eagles host their annual fall tournament at Bob Baker Field.

Play gets underway at 1 p.m. as the Eagles take on conference foe Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers and continues at 4 p.m. as a Cavaliers face Weatherford. Day one of the two-day tournament ends with the nightcap game at 7 p.m. as the Eagles take on Weatherford.

There are four games scheduled for Saturday, Sept.

Jessica Keith named new head softball coach

† † †The Eagles Athletic Department at ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ recently announced that Jessica Keith has been hired as the new head softball coach.



† † †Keith is no stranger to ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅, as she played third base for the Eagles in 1998 and 1999. She has been the head coach at Ranger College for the past nine years and served as an assistant for two years prior.

Jackson finishes 10th at CNFR


† † † Dustin Jackson, a team roping header from ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅, finished the 2011-2012 season at 10th in the nation last week at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyoming.



† † † Jackson was partnered with heeler Corey Hendrick of Wharton County Junior College. The team missed their final steer in the short round, dashing their hopes of a higher finish. However, solid times in the first three rounds gave them enough points to finish in the top ten for the event.

Seven Eagles named Scholar-Athletes

Seven members of the 2010-2011 ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ softball team were recently named National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar Athletes.
Chastin Smiddy, Shelby Perry, Christina Martin, Katelyn Holcomb, Ashley Eaves, April Breshears and Reagan Smith all qualified for the honor after finishing the 2010-2011 academic school year with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

?College athletics is about preparing players for the real world and academics are a big part of that,? ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ head softball coach Jay Terry said.
