Neida Janet Perez becomes third James and Elizabeth Whatley Scholar

In her first year at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, Neida Perez became a standout among standouts.  As a top-ranked Presidential Scholar, she has earned this fall one of the two most lucrative foundation scholarships granted through the college’s honors program. She will be the college’s James and Elizabeth Whatley Scholar for 2023-24.

This scholarship came into being as part of a record-breaking 1.7 million-dollar gift to ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ in 2007 by the Whatley family.

Honors Northeast, the honors program of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ announces a call for poems and images that can accent or enliven our sense of the surroundings, people, the culture, and/or the history of Northeast Texas.

Honors film week continues

Members of Honors Northeast and the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Webb Society are in the midst of an intense film week that has taken them, in 100-degree weather, from Lake Bob Sandlin to Lake Nacogdoches.  They are working on their 12th feature-length film on Texas history legends.  This year’s script is about the traveling preachers of early Texas.

Michelle Calderon and Aubrey Watkins win Texas Regional Scholarships

Michelle Calderon and Aubrey Watkins were recently awarded scholarships at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Honors Institute. The PTK convention concluded on July 16 and scholarships were awarded. Those who have received the STAR scholarships from Phi Theta Kappa demonstrated academic and leadership promise. Phi Theta Kappa members from any community college in the state of Texas are eligible for the award.
