During Feb 10-17, 2021, two major storms had a widespread impact across the US and especially in the state of Texas. Governor Greg Abbot declared a state of emergency for all of Texasβ 254 counties in response to the severe winter weather impacting Texas. Mass power outages, frozen and broken water lines, water and food shortages, and persistent sub-freezing weather conditions combined to create a crisis that was unprecedented in its scope and severity.
ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ took on Carl Albert College on Tuesday in a non-conference game on a very windy afternoon. The Vikings from Carl Albert would defeat ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ in a back and forth game by a score of 6-4.
ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Softball traveled to Wilburton, Oklahoma to take on Eastern Oklahoma State College in a two-game series. ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ would take game one 8-2 and game two 14-9. The series sweep brings the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ win streak to five straight games as they head into conference play next week.

Hilda Rodriguez was recently named the winner of the 2021 Chitsey Award, granted each year to the student of Honors Northeast who after their first semester, most exceeded expectations. The award comes with a $200 check.

During this time of global pandemic, nurses are at the forefront caring for patients. ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Nursing students have been able to help by participating in COVID-19 vaccine clinics.
Both LVN and RN students have participated both at Titus Regional Medical Center and Christus Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview. On Feb 27, 28 students help deliver 3,500 vaccines given that day at GSMC Vaccine Clinic.
The National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) membership celebrate the Athletic Training profession each March to spread awareness of the important work Athletic Trainers (ATβs) do. This yearβs slogan is βEssential to Health Careβ. This past year showed this more and more as athletic trainers worked to develop COVID-19 protocols to help combat the Coronavirus Pandemic. Athletic Trainers not only assisted their teams, schools, and companies in developing and implementing risk mitigation protocols but safe return to work and play protocols.
