Alpha Mu Chi, ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅'s Phi Theta Kappa chapter, placed pink ribbons around campus in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month earlier this week. Their goal was to help raise awareness of breast cancer on campus and to support those who have been affected by the disease.
Awareness is important because, according to the American Cancer Society, one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. When breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, and scheduling regular clinical breast exams and mammograms.
