It is no secret that Northeast Texas is quickly becoming a premier destination for retirees and others from big cities looking for a slower pace of life. The lower cost of living and abundant land has resulted in a record number of folks purchasing small acreage farms in the area. MPEDC receives ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation's Distinguished Benefactor Award

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation recently named the Mount Pleasant Economic Development Corporation (MPEDC) winner of its Distinguished Benefactor award for their support of the Industrial Technology Training Center (ITTC). The MPEDC has contributed almost $900,000 to the program since it opened.

The Health Sciences and Continuing Education departments at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ are†pleased to announce the offering of a Community Health Worker Certification program starting Jan. 12, 2015.

The Community Health Worker curriculum provides study in chronic disease knowledge, patient resources, and teaching skills.

Getting a grip on today?s agriculture technology and becoming an effective farm business partner is†the focus of Annie?s Project. ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Agriculture is joining this exciting initiative with a series of courses beginning in January. †Annie?s Project is based on the experiences of a farm wife who spent her†lifetime learning how to be an involved business partner with her farm husband. Together they did†great things, but it wasn?t easy.

Kayleah Cumpian named to Great Plains Honors Council

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Presidential Scholar, Kayleah Cumpian, of Mount Pleasant, narrowly edged out a junior from John Brown University to become the 2015 Student Representative of the Great Plains Honors Council (GBHC). She succeeds another former ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Presidential Scholar, Matthew Jordan, now a member of Texas Tech Honors.† This is the first time in the recorded 40-year history of the GPHC that the foremost student position of the association passed from one student to another of the same community college.

Honors Northeast presents film to Twentieth Century Club

Honors Northeast recently presented their original film on the life of Wright Patman to members of the Twentieth Century Club in Pittsburg. Several of the women present could recall interactions with the long-term Northeast Texas Congressman (1929-1976) who was the film?s subject.††Cassia Rose, of Winnsboro, also presented the trailer for the group?s upcoming film on Harriet Potter Ames, in which she stars as the Texas Lake Country heroine.
