Two students win prestigious Jack Kent Cooke scholarship

ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ students Matthew Jordan of Pittsburg and†Stephen Milburn of Mount Pleasant were recently awarded Jack Kent Cooke†Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships. This prestigious award†covers up to $30,000 annually at the university of the student's choice†for up to three years. Only 85 students were selected from more than 3,500†applicants for this national honor.



AEP SWEPCO gives ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ work scholarship

Jennifer Harland, Manager of External Affairs for AEP SWEPCO in Mount Pleasant (right) recently presented a check for $1,000 to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Vice President for Advancement. The contribution will be used to provide a scholarship for ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅'s new work scholarship pilot program. For more information about scholarships, contact McCullough at 903-434-8115.

Eagles Rodeo hosts annual Kid Rodeo

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Eagles Rodeo team hosted its annual Kids' Rodeo on April 16 at the Priefert Rodeo Complex. Each spring, elementary schools from around the area bus their Kindergarten through second grade students to†ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣơ†to watch an exhibition rodeo performed by the†ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣơ†Rodeo Team. Thousands of local school children have attended these events throughout the years. The team also hosted a special Handicapped Rodeo in the morning, which allowed special needs kids a chance to interact with the rodeo team and participate in fun events.

On Friday, April 11, the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Department of Physics and Engineering hosted the first Annual Engineering Roundtable and Luncheon in the Student Union Building on campus.† The event was sponsored by the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Foundation to provide opportunities for current engineering majors and prospective engineering students from area high schools to learn more about the field of engineering.

Eagles Baseball team in the hunt for a playoff spot

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Eagles baseball team has found itself in the middle of a four-team race for one of three remaining playoff spots.††Paris Junior College has secured a playoff spot with a 15-3 record in conference play.†Ironically, all three of their losses have been to Northeast.†The Eagles have 10 conference wins.††Panola, Angelina, and Navarro are all within one game of each other.

The Eagles have eight games remaining on their schedule and all them are very important. The first contest is a doubleheader against Panola on Friday, April 18 at ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅.

Adult Education hosts College for a Day event

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Adult Education Department recently held its annual College for a Day event. This special program gives students completing their General Education Development (GED) certificate a chance to learn about various opportunities available to help them continue their educational journey into college. The day consisted of an advising session with ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Advisor, Alex Ortega, special recognition for their hard work in obtaining their GED, a campus tour and lunch. Pictured, Ortega speaks to the group about taking the next step to attend college.
