Foundation receives $10,000 gift from Christiansen and Stanley families

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation recently received a donation of $10,000 from the Christiansen and Stanley families. The gift is being used to establish an endowed scholarship for students majoring in agriculture or other workforce-related fields. Thanks to a matching grant, the $10,000 will be doubled for a total impact of $20,000.

Shelby club planning chili cook-off

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Carroll Shelby Student Auto Club is having a fund-raising chili cook-off to honor Carroll Shelby’s 100th birthday.  All monies will go to support the club’s activities.  The event will be held in the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Culinary School in downtown Pittsburg on January 11th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Awards will be given for the winner of the People’s Choice and Judge’s Choice Chili.  To enter a chili concoction, contact Club President Brandon Fuller at (430) 900-8324.

A recent issue of the Harvard Business Review, the psychology of child development, and the author of the recent book, How to Avoid Death by PowerPoint, are all in agreement. Stories are powerful. Studies show that humans have a very active and positive hormonal response to good stories, and that stories are an exemplary way to promote memory and engagement in learning.

Board of Trustees holds regular December meeting

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Board of Trustees met for its regular December meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13th. 

The first item on the agenda was the presentation of the annual independent audit by the firm of Axley and Rode. Molly Abele gave the report, which included an unmodified opinion for both the college and the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation. She stated that the audit did not uncover any deficiencies or issues of concern. The college increased its net position by $387,319 from the previous fiscal year.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ celebrates December 2022 graduates

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ celebrated December 2022 commencement on Friday, Dec. 9th at 7 p.m. in the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. A total of 100 graduates were awarded 60 certificates of competency, 11 Associate of Arts, six Associate of Arts in Teaching, 42 Associate of Science, and 17 Associate of Applied Science. Jalisha Broadnax gave the student welcome and Jaime Olvera delivered the student response.

Congratulations, graduates! We are very proud of your accomplishments.
