Five members of Alpha Mu Chi, the ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), won PTK Texas Regional scholarships. PTK members who attend two-year colleges in the state of Texas are eligible for the Dr Mary Hood STAR Scholarships, which are given out each summer at the end of the Texas Regional Honors Institute. Thirteen scholarships were given out this year. Alpha Mu Chi set a record as ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ students took five of the top six scholarship awards given out.
The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Eagles softball team (9-19, 4-8) dropped both games against Angelina College (20-6, 7-3) in an away doubleheader in Lufkin last Sunday. This was the first of four straight in a road series for the Eagles.
Alpha Mu Chi, ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅βs award-winning, Five Star chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, hosted a District III New Officer Training Meeting on July 20. Attending the meeting held in the campus Community Room were new chapter officers and advisors from ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅, Trinity Valley Community College, Paris Junior College, Tyler Junior College, and Kilgore College.
The 2019 Kids Discovery College is well underway as they completed the first week of classes. From learning to bake to riding along in an ambulance, students have had a great time learning in a variety of fun, interactive classes! Kids Discovery College will continue through next week.
The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ recently announced its 2019-2020 entertainment lineup. New season tickets sales begin August 1 and individual ticket sales begin Monday, Aug. 12.
The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Work4College Program was featured on KLTV Channel 7 this week! A story about our unique program that allows students to work during the summer to help pay for their college in advance was included during the 6 p.m. news broadcast on Wednesday, July 3.

The ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ Board of Trustees met for its regular June meeting on Tuesday, June 25. Dr. Ron Clinton, ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅ President, reported that the first summer session is off to a great start. Between the Work4College Program (77 students), the Summer Success Program (110 students) and the Upward Bound Program (53 students), there is plenty of activity on campus.
The entire campus community is invited to attend this event that is being hosted by ΊωΒ«ΝήΚΣΖ΅'s Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter with support from SGA and the Student Activities Office. The student celebration will be July 1 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the campus plaza.
