If you are employed in Camp County and would like to get more education or training for your employees, you can take advantage of a matching grant that the Pittsburg Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) granted to ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. The grant will fund 50% of the tuition for any classes ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ offers for you to help improve your working skill sets.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will be closed on Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. Offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, May 30th. Students can still and online for summer and fall 2023 classes even when the college is closed.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ celebrated its May 2023 commencement with two ceremonies on Saturday, May 13th. There were 340 candidates for graduation. The 9 a.m. ceremony honored those receiving Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts in Teaching degrees and dual credit certificates. There were 130 students in attendance to receive their diploma. A total of 132 Associate of Applied Science degrees and Certificates of Competency were presented at the 11 a.m. ceremony.

Three ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ history students emerged on top in the 2023 Bonnie Spencer competition, for the best student essays in history, outside of the honors seminars.  Essays could have been entered from any other history course from any history instructor, full-time or part-time, on campus or off, such as with embedded dual history classes. Every semester full-time and associate faculty in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s Division of Math, Physics and Engineering can select an outstanding student, who is exceptional in some way. For the Spring 2023 semester, Dr. Doug Richey nominated Jenna Renae Lukehart from Mount Pleasant as outstanding in College Algebra (Fall 2022) and Statistics (Spring 2023).

On 5 May, for the fifteenth time, community judges and ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ students converged on the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ for an annual McGraw-Hill Poster Contest.  The scholarly competition was enabled again by generous grants, from Beverly Kelley of Mount Vernon, and the McGraw-Hill Education Corporation—through the special work of Bill Welsh, and Casey Slaght who work in the corporate office in Dubuque, Iowa.

Madison Speight has been selected as the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Psi Beta National Junior Honor Society chapter’s scholarship winner for 2022/23 academic year. The $500 scholarship is to help defray expenses of Psi Beta members who are transferring to a 4 -year school.
