Two Presidential Scholars win Eckman Awards

Two ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Presidential Scholars recently won $100 for their performance in challenging honors seminars. Presley McClendon, who graduated this past May, was the sophomore who took all three honors seminars at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, and ended with the highest GPA.† Chesney Davis won his award as an honors freshman, ranking number one in the Stat-Psych Honors Seminar taught this past spring by Dr. Karyn Skaar and Dr. Paula Wilhite.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ signs police academy service agreement with Kilgore College

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ hosted representatives from Kilgore College (KC)†this week to formalize the signing of a service area agreement to establish the East Texas Police Academy at Northeast. KC will now begin offering instruction on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus in basic peace officer, basic corrections officer and telecommunications. KC will also offer local continuing education courses for existing law enforcement officers. ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Board approves campus carry policy

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Board of Trustees approved its first policy to permit the carrying of concealed weapons on campus at its regular May meeting Tuesday evening.

This policy was prepared in accordance with a Texas law (SB 11) that will make it legal for licensed individuals to ?conceal carry? a handgun on public community college campuses beginning August 1, 2017. Each college was required to develop local policies for implementation of the new law.

Bonnie Spencer Awards presented

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ recently awarded the second annual Bonnie Spencer Awards for excellence in historical research. The prize is awarded to students who write the top United States History papers for the school year. First place ($100) went to Alondra Ferretiz of Mount Pleasant and second place ($50) went to Sarah Craig of Hughes Springs.

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is somewhat unique in that is requires all students to complete a research paper during their United States History course.

TRMC Auxiliary gives ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ scholarships

The Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) Auxiliary recently presented the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation with $4,500, which will provide six $750 scholarships to benefit students at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ majoring in a health sciences field.
