Artist reception scheduled for Oct. 20

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Art Department will host an artist reception Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts. Attendees will have the†opportunity†to view†Refined by Fire, a display of pottery by Karen Lowrey of Longview. The artist will meet†with guests, discuss her work and take questions. The exhibit will be on display through Oct.

Mary Smith wins Walter B. Cooper Memorial Scholarship

Mary Smith, a sophomore at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, was recently awarded her sixth scholarship of the school year. Smith, of Gilmer, was presented the Walter B. Cooper Memorial Scholarship at the Phi Theta Kappa Texas Leadership Conference October 11 at Texas A&M University College Station. In order to receive this award, students must have an outstanding academic record and exhibit characteristics of a well-rounded member of Phi Theta Kappa and the community at large. Dr.

Cartwright Community Center board gives to scholarship

The Cartwright Community Center Board recently contributed $1,000 to the Ralph Whatley Agriculture Scholarship at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Pictured making the donation are Doug and Kathy Richey (left) and Kim and Steve Raley. Dr. Jonathan McCullough (right), ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Vice President for Advancement, received the gift on behalf of the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation. The community center was recently sold and funds from the sale were distributed to several local organizations.

Perrymans sponsor scholarship reception

Richard and Margaret Perryman recently presented a $3,000 check to Nita May (right), Director of Development, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.† The funds will be used to underwrite the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation Annual Scholarship Reception.† The reception is held on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus each fall and allows scholarship recipients to meet the donors who made their award possible. In addition to helping ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ with scholarships themselves, the Perrymans have been underwriting the Scholarship Reception for more than 10 years.

Scare Affair slated for Oct. 24

It?s time to put on your best Halloween costume, dust off your trick-or-treat basket and head out to ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ for the 28th annual Scare Affair.

The event is from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 on the plaza of the main ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus (located on FM 1735 near Chapel Hill ISD). There will be free candy for all trick-or-treaters, low-cost games for all ages, a costume contest with cash prizes and much more!

In celebration of National Medical Assistants Recognition Week, the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Medical Assisting/Medical Coding program will host an informational session Tuesday, Oct. 20. Anyone interested in pursuing a career as a medical assistant or medical coder are invited to attend to learn about ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's training program. Medical assistants are versatile healthcare professionals who function in both administrative and patient care roles. The session will be from 6-7 p.m.

Over the past few months, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ?s Carroll Shelby Automotive Program partnered with Dallas attorney Rob Miller to transform a 1965 Mustang to a race car that is set to be driven in the 2015 La Carrera Panamericana Race in Mexico starting on Oct. 16.
