«Ƶ selects six for National Adult Education Honor Society

The Titus County Literacy Advisory Council recently honored six deserving†General Equivalency Diploma (GED) students from Northeast Texas Community†College by inducting them into the National Adult Education Honor Society†(NAEHS).†Those inducted were: (from left): Brandy Moss of Winnsboro, Angie Turnbow of Daingerfield, Carlos Landaverde of Pittsburg,†Calvin Henry of Pittsburg,†Brillana Rosas of Mount Pleasant and Emily Smith of Pittsburg.

Two «Ƶ students win prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

«Ƶ Presidential Scholars, Jessica Velazquez of Mount Vernon and Angelica Fuentes of Mount Pleasant were recently awarded Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships. These prestigious awards cover up to $40,000†annually at a university of the student?s choice for up to three†years. Only†75 students were selected from more than 2,000 top applicants in a very competitive process for this national honor.

Two GED grads win J. Travis Jackson scholarship

Shawna Lunsford (center) of Mount Pleasant and Brandy Moss (right) of Winnsboro were recently†presented with the J. Travis Jackson†GED†Scholarship during the†2016 GED graduation ceremony hosted by the «Ƶ Adult Education Department.†This $500 award is given by the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club in memory of Jackson, who was a long time adult educator in Titus County. Making the presentation is Jey Yancey (left), President of the Mount Pleasant Rotary Club.

«Ƶ names library for Charlie and Helen Hampton

«Ƶ recently announced that its library has been renamed the Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center (LRC). The «Ƶ Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve the new building name in their April board meeting. This is the first name change in a recently-launched fundraising/naming campaign by the «Ƶ Foundation. The naming campaign comes as the campus interior undergoes a major transformation.

Helen Hampton and her late husband, Charlie, of Naples, are longtime friends of «Ƶ.

International Sulphur gives five transfer scholarships

International Sulphur, Inc. recently made a scholarship donation to the «Ƶ Foundation.†Marci Henderson (left), is pictured presenting a $5,000 check to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, «Ƶ Vice President for Advancement. The funds will be used to award five $1,000 scholarships to students who graduated from «Ƶ in the spring of 2016†and†will be†transferring to four-year†universities†this fall.

«Ƶ awards Spencer prizes for essays in history

Kassandra V. Martinez, a «Ƶ Honors Scholar, and Tanika Santos, a member of the «Ƶ Women?s Soccer Team have become the first winners of the Bonnie Spencer Awards for superior essays in history.† Spencer, an alumna of Northeast, and the leader of «Ƶ?s first history club in 2003, established the fund that awards the prizes. She also read the submissions, and helped select the winners.

«Ƶ to offer iCan Kids Discovery College this summer

The «Ƶ Continuing Education Department is planning a variety of fun courses for kids ages 8-15 this summer. Registration is now open for the iCan Kids Discovery College, which will be held in two sessions.

?Our summer kids programs have been very popular in the past and we are excited to bring them back this year. This is a great way for kids to get out of the house and do something both fun and educational during the summer months†and discover what «Ƶ has to offer,?
