ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ held its ninth†annual McGraw-Hill Poster contest Friday, April 29. The event was held in the foyer of the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts and featured research by 20 of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ?s most decorated scholars. The contest has become an annual test of creative research in Northeast Texas, funded in part by the McGraw-Hill Corporation, and judged by friends of the college, and Honors Northeast.
The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation recently received a $10,000 gift from the East Texas Communities Foundation and the Burt and Nancy Marans Estate. Dr. Brad Johnson, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ President (right) and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Vice President for Advancement, are pictured receiving the donation. †The funds will be used to begin the restoration process for the Dr. John Biggers mural that will be relocated from Pewitt Elementary School to the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Charlie and Helen Hampton Learning Resource Center.
Dr. Tawny Nix, Director of the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Medical Assistant program, recently contributed $2,000 to the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation. The funds will provide scholarships to students majoring in Medical Assistant, Medical Coding or Health Informatics. She is pictured presenting the gift to Dr. Jonathan McCullough, ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Vice President for Advancement. The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Student Government Association (SGA) recently recognized two student organizations on campus. The Phi Theta Kappa Alpha Mu Chi chapter was awarded Outstanding Student Organization for the 2015-2016 school year. ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will hold its spring commencement in two ceremonies at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Whatley Center Saturday, May 14. Dr. Kim Wommack will be the speaker at both events.
The†9 a.m. ceremony is for Associate of Arts, Associate of Arts in Teaching and Associate of Science graduates. Mary Smith of Gilmer will give the student response at this ceremony.
The†11 a.m. ceremony is for Associate of Applied Science and Certificate of Competency graduates.
