Charlie & Helen Hampton receive Distinguished Benefactor Award

Helen Hampton and her late husband Charlie dedicated their entire professional careers to education, so it only made sense that they would continue to do so in retirement. Since moving back home to Northeast Texas in the mid 1990s, the Hamptons have contributed to scholarships and†cultural events at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. From helping students achieve their dreams of a college education to sponsoring high-quality entertainment at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts, the Hamptons are among the college?s††most prolific donors.

Milestones are important in the life of any institution.† This fall a milestone deserving of attention has occurred at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ - its first employee retired.

This year ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ honors the 31-year-service of Judy Jackson, the first employee hired when the college was formed.†Judy's role changed over the†years†as the college grew from an infant organization into the dynamic, far-reaching institution that it is today.

Judy began her relationship with ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ as a community volunteer who worked tirelessly to pass the original election that created the college

Criminal justice travel course planned

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will offer an exciting new travel study opportunity next summer. The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ criminal justice and sociology departments are hosting a trip to south Texas that will provide real-world insight into various areas of the criminal justice system.†

The trip is scheduled for May 16-22, 2016. Students will travel in a luxury motor coach for a week jam-packed with activities and destinations.

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ chapter of the Walter Webb Society recently presented work at the group's statewide fall meeting in Galveston. The focus of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's presentation was their upcoming film on Texas†governors Ma and Pa Ferguson. The Webb Society is the collegiate branch†of the Texas State Historical Association.†Members of Honors Northeast students typically participate in the Webb Society because of the emphasis on Texas history and culture in the Honors program.



ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ enrolling for day and evening police academies

The Northeast Police Academy at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is now accepting applications for its upcoming police academies. The next evening academy begins November 30 and the Fast-Track day academy begins January 19.

The evening academy, which is for continuing education credit only, meets from 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every first and third Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last day of class is June 10, 2016.
