† † ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ (main campus student services) will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 25 to assist students needing to complete the registration process for the fall semester. Students will have the opportunity to speak with academic advisors, access computers to register online, make payments and receive help with financial aid.



† † The College Store will also be open during this time to allow students to purchase books and other supplies.

† † The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Honors students got a head start on their semester last week as they traveled to Jefferson to film their second feature-length movie.



† † The students are currently in the process of producing a 38-scene film on the life of Morris Sheppard, a native of Morris County.†Sheppard authored the 18th amendment and is known as the father of prohibition.



ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ to offer free GED classes in Mount Pleasant

The Adult Education Department at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will offer free General Education Development (GED) classes in Mount Pleasant.†Both day and evening classes are available.†Students interested in attending classes must enroll in a 12-hour orientation. Orientation and classes will be held at the Adult Education Center located in Room 126 of the Mount Pleasant ISD Administration Building at 105 N. Riddle. †The day orientation will be September 4-6 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and classes begin September 10.

Whatley Center announces 2012-2013 season

† † The Whatley Center for the Performing Arts at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ recently announced the lineup for the 2012-2013 season. Individual ticket sales begin Monday, Aug. 20. Season ticket packages are also available.



† † "We have scheduled some amazing shows for our upcoming year of entertainment. I strongly recommend that people purchase tickets well in advance. We have already had a huge response about some of these performances," Carolyn Franks, Director of the Whatley Center, said.



Summer Academic Achievements

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is pleased to recognize students who excelled academically in Summer 2012. To be named to the Academic Honors list, a student must have taken 12 or more hours and earned at least a 3.5 grade point average. To be named to the Special Academic Merit List, a student must have taken between seven and 11 hours and earned a 4.0 grade point average. Students receiving honors were:

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ graduates 148 students at summer commencement

ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ held its summer 2012 commencement ceremony at the Whatley Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Aug. 10. During the ceremony, 82 students were awarded associate degrees and 66 earned certificates of competency in their chosen fields. Cory Nesbitt, a 2003 graduate of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ who is now a mechanical engineer for NASA, gave the commencement address. Nesbitt is a native of Mount Pleasant and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. Pictured above, Carlos Mendez, of Mount Pleasant, gives the student response as his classmates look on.

Pleasant Sams give $500 ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ scholarship

The ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Foundation recently received a $500 scholarship from the Pleasant Sams, the Mount Pleasant Chapter of the Good Sams Club of America. This year's gift will benefit a student studying in the Carroll Shelby Automotive Technology program at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.
